Health Promotion & Health Education department

Introduction:

Health education is the discipline dedicated to designing, implementing, and evaluating health programs and materials that improve the health of individuals, families, and communities. Health education is one of the tools of health promotion. A goal of health education is to provide individuals with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to make healthier lifestyle choices. Health education takes place in a variety of settings, such as schools; health care facilities; businesses; nonprofit organizations; and local, state, and federal health agencies.

The mission of the Department of Health Education is to discover, refine, and facilitate the practical application of strategies that can assist individuals, communities, and societies in adopting and maintaining healthy lifestyles.

The program are committed to the integration of teaching, research, and service into an inclusive process of planning, implementing, and evaluating successful health education policies, environs, and practices. Our focus is on community and family based positive health promotion and education.

A comprehensive health education curriculum consists of planned learning experiences which will help students achieve desirable attitudes and practices related to critical health issues. Some of these are: emotional health and a positive self image; appreciation, respect for, and care of the human body and its vital organs; physical fitness; health issues of   tobacco, drug use and abuse; health misconceptions and myths; effects of exercise on the body systems and on general well being; nutrition and weight control; sexual relationships and sexuality, the scientific, social, and economic aspects of community and ecological health; communicable and degenerative diseases including sexually transmitted diseases; disaster preparedness; safety and driver education; factors in the environment and how those factors affect an individual's or population's Environmental health (ex: air quality, water quality, food sanitation); life skills; choosing professional medical and health services; and choices of health careers.

State & mission:

  1. To present learning programme with good quality that implies all aspects of learning besides strong teaching experiences based on theoretical principles & pioneer exercises ( practices)in the field of health promotion & health education.
  2. To equip the graduates with the necessary skills ,knowledge,values and ethics needed for practicing the occupation as one of the member of the team of different specializations
  3. Help the students to assess the educational needs of the individuals,families and local communities.
  4. Support graduates to solve major health problems by using modern methods in planning,implementation and evaluation of educational and health promotion interventions besides moblizing the communities and related sectors to contribute in solving these problems.
  5. To meet the current shortage for specialist in the field of health promotion & health education such as patient education,family education,work places educations, schools and general community.  
  6. To encourage the practice of health promotion & health education profession in the framework of ethics and standards of profession.
  7. To carry out research in different fields and locations that are targetted by health education to improve health and profession development.
  8. To provide consultations for governmental and private sectors and other related institutes with respect to planning,implementation and evaluation of health education programmes and their related polices.
  9. To propagate the awareness of the health issues and enroot health values among the whole community for disease prevention & promotion of the patterns of healthy life style.
  10. To enhance continuous training to develop capacity building in the field of health promotion & health education & related community health sciences.
  11. To enhance intersectoral coordination in health matters.

Objectives:

  1. Application of health,statistical,environmental & behavioural knowledge as skills needed in the field of health promotion & health education.
  2. Assessment of individual,family & community needs for health promotion and health education services.
  3. Planning, implementation & development of health promotion and health education programmes using a set of various stratigies that aim to improve community health.
  4. Provide health education services to patients and their families.
  5. Preperation,examination & assessment of health education messages and the teaching methods used.
  6. Carry out research and studies that are concerned with health promotion and health education & utlizing results in the planning & assessment of health education programme.
  7. Contribute with the related sectors to defend health issues & support health promotion interventions programmes.
  8. Create reference for health education and health information.
  9. Documention of health education activities and its procedures.
  10. To ensure the application of quality standards in health education
  11. Respect community rights to be in complaince with the moral and ethics of the profession of health education.
